Ye Almanack ("the App") is developed by Manicgrin Media Ltd. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
Summary
Ye Almanack is designed with privacy in mind. Your personal data (journal entries, notes, observations) stays on your device and in your private iCloud account. We do not have access to your personal content, and we do not sell your data to third parties.
Information We Collect
Location Data
The App requests access to your device's location to provide:
- Local weather information
- Sunrise and sunset times
- Tide information for nearby coastal areas
Your precise location is used only to fetch this information and is not stored on our servers. The general location name (e.g., "London") may be saved alongside weather history records in your private iCloud storage.
User-Created Content
The App stores your:
- Journal entries
- Notes (recurring and general)
- To-do items
- Phenology observations
- Photos attached to journal entries
This content is stored locally on your device and synced to your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. We do not have access to this content.
Weather History
The App automatically saves daily weather summaries to help you look back at past conditions. This data is stored in your private iCloud account and includes the date, temperature, conditions, and location name.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
Apple WeatherKit
Used to fetch current weather, forecasts, and sun/moon data. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
WorldTides API
Used to fetch tide information for your location. Your approximate location coordinates are sent to WorldTides to retrieve local tide data. See WorldTides Privacy Policy.
Anthropic API
Used to generate gardening hints and nature notes. When generating this content, we send the current month, season, and general climate zone to Anthropic's servers. No personal information or location data is included in these requests. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Apple CloudKit
Used to sync your personal data across your devices and to store shared community content (gardening hints and nature notes). Your personal data is stored in your private iCloud container and is not accessible to us or other users.
Data Retention
Your personal data remains in your iCloud account until you delete it. You can delete individual entries within the App, or remove all App data by deleting the App and its associated iCloud data through your device settings.
Data Security
All data is transmitted securely using encryption. Your personal content is protected by Apple's iCloud security measures and is accessible only to you through your Apple ID.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App does not require account creation and does not collect any personal identifiers.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data (available within the App and via iCloud)
- Delete your data (by deleting entries in the App or removing iCloud data)
- Withdraw location permissions (via device Settings)
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy within the App or on our website.
